The Mercy Cage is melodic elektro-darkwave/cyber-noir from New Zealand. Formed in early 1999, debut album Wire in 2000. 2nd album, Rust: A Fiction – Stories From The Black Room released on Mediatrix in late 2001. Album number 3, the groups first north american domestic release on DSBP entitled “Scree: Transmissions” released in May 2005.

“Scree: Transmissions is a record about inter-personal relationships in the digital age. It’s about the ascendency of the cult of celebrity, and it’s about the search for a deeper meaning in an accelerated culture…”

  we’re pleased to finally be able to announce that the new album by The Mercy Cage, “scree:transmissions” will be out soon on new zealand’s finest dark-end label Mediatrix. “scree:transmissions” is a 23 track, 74 min+ concept record. it’s conceptually & musically far more ambitious than anything the band has attempted previously, & is streets ahead of any prior release by The Mercy Cage in terms of both production values & songwriting. spectacular album artwork has been provided by jason just @ symbolique. details to follow soon. as a teaser for the new album, you can now download the “hymn_01:virtual” EP here:

  The Mercy Cage makes an appearance on the (forthcoming) 3rd Interbreeding compilation from the folks @ BLC music. Interbreeding III: Xenophobic is a 2 CD compilation featuring established names & some of the rising stars of the underground electro-industrial scene. Interbreeding III features the track “Prozac, God & The Atomic Bomb [Xenophobe mix]“, an exclusive remix of a song from the new album sessions. Hyper-distorted darkwave goodness.

+  currently mixing a cover version of Mentallo & The Fixer’s “False Prophets” for Initial Sequence Productions forthcoming MATF tribute album.

+  recently completed an ultra-heavy guitar+electronics collaborative track for Tommy T ov industrial supergroup Diverje. this
collaboration is due to appear on the 6th Diverje album, “The
Distortion Chamber”, due out later this year.

+  this month we farewell longtime cage-collaborator & live guitarist
dene [under/h2o] young to the frozen north (scotland to be exact). An itegral part of the live performance unit to date, dene has also
contributed guitar to several tracks off the new album, & his
prodigious talents will be sorely missed. hopefully he’ll continue to
contribute long distance to future v.e.t_labs releases.

Rust:A Fiction – Stories From The Black Room is now available from the USA’s finest underground elektro label The DSBP for USD $13. Rust: A Fiction is also now available in Australia thru GUP, & online in New Zealand from Mediatrix.

Thanks to those who turned out to the Club Bizarre-promoted Affliction gig for The Mercy Cage live v1.1in April. Some pictures from the night are available online Here.

Recently completed a couple of remixes for U.S Hard Elektro legends Diverje which are slated to appear on the upcoming Amphibian DCD, to be released by The DSBP
