[Brand] New Home – Home/Again

[Brand] New Home – Home/Again

here’s a quick and dirty cover mixed this morning that evolved from a studio improv session a couple of weeks ago. A hot mess of analog synthesis: FEARvLOATHINC’s [Brand] New Home.

In 1997 Bombay girl was the most cyberpunk record I’d ever heard.
A collage of cutting-edge bodymusik, oblique pop culture sampling, numan-esque synthpop, and shouty new wave. An artifact from the future that still holds up today.

Anyway, if you’ve never heard it, check out the original below. It’s way better than this:

Attrition – Part Time Lovers – The 2004 Remixes

A lost 2004 remix of the song Head Of Gabriel for legendary (and prolific) U.K Darkwave act ATTRITION has just surfaced on their new “Part Time Lovers – The 2004 Release. i haven’t heard this in 10 years….

“The lost remixes from 2004 Dante’s Kitchen album sessions…
Originally destined for a remix collection that never materialised at the time, finally rescued from the archives, lovingly mastered at The Cage by Martin and allowed out to play here..”

picked this ancient home organ up at a junk store many years ago with the intent of circuit bending, but it has an anachronistic charm as is. a home organ squarewave generator.

here’s how it sounds run through a distortion pedal & three different hardware reverbs. an improvised live looping piece from 2011:

lost & found (again)

‘Re:Cover – an underground New Zealand music exploration’ is a free downloadable compilation featuring some of New Zealand’s finest underground dark-alt/industrial/electro/experimental artists recording interpretations of their favourite kiwi songs. Inspired by the “She’s Lost” compilation from 2007 (and including many of the same artists), we hope to put a new spin on known and unknown tracks from our musical past. “

includes the mercy cage covering the car crash set classic fall from grace.

“Car Crash Set were a pioneering new zealand synthpop outfit. Fall From Grace is an amazing song from their 1983 E.P Two Songs. Overshadowed from that release by the more familiar Outsider, Fall From Grace is just beautiful, world-class synthpop. Somewhat hard to find these days, but take the time to find this song. It’s perfect.

Arranged & recorded in a day, our take on the song was to sound like an industrial garage-rock band jamming on a synthpop song. 30 year-old analogue synth live looping, manually triggered samples & improvised noise guitar. A little sketchy in places, but cybernetic rock & roll usually is.”

grab it here.

False Prophets [Mentallo & The Fixer cover] [2004]

False Prophets [Mentallo & The Fixer cover] [2004]

a fairly faithful version of my favourite MATF song, recorded for a proposed tribute album that fell apart in paticularly spectacular fashion in april 2004.

rewired by The Mercy Cage @ v.e.t_labs, Tauranga, New Zealand. March 2004.

original blurb:

for me, mentallo & the fixer epitomised everything good about the early 90s electro-industrial scene. brutal upfront production, raw synthwork, abstract atmospheres  & a healthy dose of experimentalism. the brothers dassing always seemed to approach music with an almost missionary zeal, there’s an intensity in most of their work  that borders on religious fervor. The raw energy of albums like “revelations 23” & “where angels fear to tread ” makes the current crop of electro bands seem rather tame & safe by comparison.

magnets coil [FEARvLOATHINC remix] [2004]

magnets coil [fvl remix] – a slowed down, funked up, instrumental remix of Magnets Coil by pioneering NZ EBM act, & current industrial disco legends FEARvLOATHINC. i love this mix, but it just didn’t seem to sit well with the tone of the first E.P. will probably wind up on a later release. the bassline kills me…
